In this work we present simple numerical simulations of supernova remnant expansion with internal magnetars. We show that by taking into account the energy injected in the supernova remnant by magnetar spin-down, the supernova remnant expands faster. Attempts to interprete such objects within the conventional model (explosion energy ~ 1051 erg) will produce larger ages. We apply this model to the proposed associations between supernova remnants and magnetar candidates (AXPs and SGRs). We conclude that about 50% of the associations can be true ones, provided SGRs and AXPs are magnetars.
