Scientific paper

A description of axially symmetric cosmic string distributions is
performed by means of the formalism of the relativistic kinetic theory.
The general form of the stress-energy tensor and of the equation of
state for a fluid of strings is given. The results are applied to
anisotropic cosmological models.
