NASDA and ISAS have investigated the experimental lunar lander which is based on Japanese own technologies in SELENE project. In this project, the spacecraft consists of three parts; an orbiter, a relay satellite, and experimental lunar lander. This experimental lander is planned to acquire the basic soft-landing technology. For landing, this experimental lander has to do ``powered descent and moon soft-landing'' autonomously. But soft-landing onto the moon is the first experience in Japan. This paper describes the outline of concepts and technological problems of this experimental lunar lander and introduces some unique characteristics under consideration, such as autonomous obstacle avoiding control.
