Since 1968, a program for the development of an automated supernova search based upon complete remote computer control of a telescope and vidicon digital imaging system has been under development. The program was initiated in connection with the desirability to detect supernovae at an early stage of their light curve in sufficient numbers to establish a number of criteria related to the derivation and the characteristics of the supernovae light curves, and the supernovae statistics. The required system under development reached almost operational status. However, the project was terminated in 1974 in connection with the discontinuation of external funding and difficulties with the software structure and the computer. Possibilities are discussed to implement the supernova search system with the aid of a 16-bit minicomputer, taking into account a modification of the computer for a performance of multitasking operations in a real-time environment.
