A CÆIUM atomic resonator1 has been in operation as the standard of frequency at the National Physical Laboratory for eight months and its performance under a variety of conditions has been investigated. It has been found that the electrical and mechanical conditions required for an accuracy of repetition of +/- 5 parts in 1010 are easily attained, and it is expected that the model now being designed for routine operation will give an accuracy approaching +/- 1 part in 1010.
