AtomDB (http://www.atomdb.org) is a collection of uniformly-formatted atomic data for analyzing X-ray spectra from astronomical sources. It is targeted at and used by observers and modellers, with data provided from various lab astrophysics and atomic theory efforts.
With the release of version 2.0 of the database, significant improvements to the existing database (v1.3.2) have been made: inclusion of updated collision data for the H and He-like sequences, as well as additions to the iron L-shell holdings. Further, the inclusion for the first time of photoionization rates, absorption cross sections and flouresence yields from the XSTAR database greatly expands the data held within AtomDB.
To test these improvements, spectra from well-diagnosed fusion plasmas in the ASDEX-Upgrade tokamak at the Max-Planck-Institut für Plasmaphysik have been analyzed using AtomDB. These plasmas have been seeded with impurities and their spectra recorded in the VUV/X-ray range. This, and further similar work, will be used as a check on the quality of the data held in AtomDB. We present here the preliminary results of this comparision.
