The frequencies at which oscillations of the atmosphere are most likely to occur due to the tidal influence of the sun and the moon and the thermal effect of the sun, in conjunction with the seasonal changes of the atmosphere, are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the approximately diurnal and semidiurnal variations, and the amplitudes and phases of such variations in 27 years of atmospheric pressure data from Hong Kong are determined. Many of these oscillations have not previously been detected in meteorological data.
