An analytical expression for the perturbation due to atmospheric tide is derived, and its order of magnitude is estimated. For Lageos, over a 5-day arc, the perturbation generates an along-track error of about 20 cm. The perturbation due to atmospheric tide is on the order of 5 x 10 to the -11th, or 2.6 percent of that due to the solid tide; hence it should be included in high-accuracy orbit determination.
