Consideration is given to phase disturbances in the flat wavefront from a point radio source in terms of a quadratic function of receiving antenna position. The function represents the influence of atmospheric reactive structures larger than 1300 m, the size of the array. It is found that: (1) irregularities with sizes larger than the array predominate, (2) many move at speeds characteristic of tropospheric winds, and (3) diurnal and seasonal variations indicate a tropospheric origin.
