The spectroscopic properties of the southern supergiants Alpha-Lep (FOIb) and Iota Car(FOIab) are investigated on the basis of Kurucz (1979) model atmospheres and on spectrograms obtained with a reciprocal dispersion of 2 A/mm. The following values were derived for effective temperature and log g:a in Alpha-Lep: T(eff) = 7300 (+ or - 150) K; and log g + 1.75 (+ or - 0.2). Values obtained for Iota Car were: T(eff) = 7300 (+ or - 200) K; and log g = 1.4 (+ or - 0.2). The distribution of the microturbulence velocity in both stars is analyzed in detail. It is shown that the distribution of Fe I lines leads to lower values for microturbulence velocity than in the lines of Ti II and Fe II. The metal abundances of Alpha-Lep were found on the average to be closely related to those of the sun, although a deficit of carbon was recorded. By comparison with evolution calculations the masses, radii, luminosities, and ages of the supergiant stars were determined. A complete list of the studied parameters and their corresponding values is presented in the form of a table.
