The atmosphere of a planet reacts subtly to external influences and it is necessary to study well the mechanisms of these changes in order not only to learn the planet's past, but also to be able to predict its future. The basic research for such an endeavo is discussed. The design of the spacecraft and payload equipment for atmospheric composition study are examined.
