We propose to continue the ongoing intensity monitoring of Sgr A* with the ATCA at 3-mm, augmented by the simultaneous 7-mm observations, to investigate the IDV in Sgr A*. Our 3- & 2-mm Nobeyama Millimeter Array monitoring of Sgr A* has revealed flares lasting from hours to months, including several IDV detections. ATCA would provide higher angular resolution, a longer observing window, and better calibrations, for tracking these flares. Our previous 3-mm ATCA observations of Sgr A* in Oct 2005, Jun and Aug 2006, and Oct 2007 have demonstrated that the ATCA is very suitable in searching for IDV in Sgr A*. The inclusion of 7-mm will enable us to cross check the 3-mm result and derive the time variation of spectral index between these two bands for the first time. If detected, the variation of spectral index can help further distinguish the existing models for the flaring activity. Given the availability of the interim Compact Array Broadband (CABB) System at ATCA in 2008 APRS, we prefer to try observations at both 3- and 7-mm with the CABB to improve the measurements of the relatively weak control source PKS 1741-312.
