AstroTwitter is a service for telescopes, astronomers and the public to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you observing? This question, commonly asked by visitors to observatories, can now be answered cheaply, easily and systematically by everyone and every telescope to a global audience. With a real-time messaging bus written in human and machine-readable form, we will have the ability to watch the world's telescopes chasing gamma ray bursts, follow global star parties live, and discover which parts of the sky are the most frequently (or least frequently) observed.
