The motion of gas in dark interstellar clouds is discussed, which is relevant to the early life of stars. This motion can be studied with a Fabry-Perot interferometer for infrared emission lines. A cryogenic spectrometer of that type is described which has a resolution of 100,000 and is specialized to the forbidden Ne II line at 12.8 microns. In addition, an astronomical program with this spectrometer is discussed.
