An excitation function for the 18F(p,α)15O reaction has been measured in the energy range Ec.m.=600-800 keV using a radioactive 18F beam. A resonant state with a spin value of 3/2+ has been found at an energy of 652 keV above threshold. This lp=0 resonance is found to dominate the astrophysical reaction rate at temperatures T9>~0.5.
