The astrophysical importance of the new class of theoretical models for accretion disks concentrating mainly on the applications to active galactic nuclei are discussed. The slim accretion disks model describes several important astrophysical processes which dominate the properties of the flow close to a central compact object (a very compact neutron star or a black hole).
