Global defects in a spacetime produce non-zero stress-energy throughout, and as a result will have significant gravitational influence. This paper considers the exact metric of a static, cylindrically symmetric global string.(A. G. Cohen, D. B. Kaplan, Phys. Lett. B215, 67 (1988)) The minimum separation between global strings is examined by considering the defect's contribution to the cosmological energy density. Number density constraints are constructed by examining the tidal forces such defects will have on observable astrophysical systems.
