A general practical guide for amateur astronomers interested in color photography of low-magnitude objects is provided. Incidence of three basic colors (red/yellow/blue) in the stellar field, reciprocity loss in prolonged exposures, the structure of multilayer color-sensitive films, and practical problems with the Kodak E-4 process for developing Ektachrome film, in remote areas combining difficulties (in water supply and temperature control) in film processing with excellent seeing conditions, are covered. Cryogenic astrophotographic equipment, use of enlargers with color mixing heads and filter sets, and advantages of internegatives from transparency slides are also mentioned. Several sharp full-color glossy reproductions of star fields with nebulosities are provided.
