Historians concentrate their studies on important persons, on those who in some way influenced the evolution of society. The aim here is to turn this viewpoint on its head; we intend to present an almost unknown late-mediaeval scholar who tried to summarize the knowledge of an average, educated fifteenth-century man in a comprehensive encyclopaedia. This work offers a unique excursion into the knowledge and encyclopaedic traditions of the mid-fifteenth century.
