The general structure of the astronomy education and activities for the improvement of astronomy education in the Republic of Macedonia are presented. Since 2005 for the first time at the Institute of Physics, the faculty of Natural Sciences at the University Kiril i Metodij, the new specialization -- Astronomy -- has been introduced. Included in the last year of the new reformed secondary education are selected topics in astrophysics. Bearing in mind that the knowledge in astrophysics for most of the physics teachers is missing, the staff from the Institute of Physics has been organiizing courses and preparing the educational materials for the continuing education of physics teachers. For the public education, most of the activities are performed by the Macedonian Astronomical Society (MAS) established in 1996. The society participates in raising the educational and professional level through affirmation and presentation of cultural and scientific values of astronomy and in the supervision of the process of establishing astronomical sections and clubs in schools and their initial activities. The young astronomers from two regional astronomical societas (from Skopje and Bitola) are very active during interesting astronomical phenomena. Considering that no astronomical observatory exists in the country and that astronomy education was missing, the astronomical literacy in the country is very low. On the other hand, the interest in astronomy is surprisingly high, as evidenced by the huge number of children that participate in the Winter schools of astronomy organized by the MAS at the Institute of Physics in Skopje. The help of the astronomers from our neighboring countries is very important for the success of our activities for the improvement of astronomy literacy. Currently, our contacts with the Bulgarian astronomers from the National Astronomical Observatory Rozhen are extremely useful.
