The measurements of the vertical profiles of the refraction index
structure coefficient Cn2 in the night atmosphere
are reviewed. A conclusion on the prevailing contribution of the upper
and middle atmosphere (at heights >30 m above the ground) to the
astronomical seeing is drawn.
