The elaboration of astronomical time scales is discussed. Time in function of the rotation of the Earth is considered. Stellar time and sidereal time are compared. Time measurement by sidereal time is explained. Differences between mean solar time and sidereal time are pointed out. True solar time and a time equation are specified. Time in the function of planetary motions, irregularities in the rotation of the Earth, and universal time are also examined.
