Spacecraft fly-bys near stars (either our own or others) are discussed with reference to relativistic effects. Use is made of the Schwarzschild metric in describing the fundamentals of interactions between gravity and effects described in the General Theory of Relativity. Attention is given to the relativistic deflection of light caused by gravity, and to the contraction of a relativistic trajectory.
