This paper investigates the probability that certain prehistoric structures were built for astronomical usage. The determination that Stonehenge, in Wiltshire, England, was an elaborate astronomical observatory and the suggestion that it was also a computer resulted from a direct interaction of the two disciplines of astronomy and archaeology. The data obtained at Stonehenge have established a set of criteria that may be used to investigate similar prehistoric sites.
