The radiative association process CH3(+) + H2 - CH5(+) + h nu is of interest in relation to the chemistry of interstellar clouds. Here, earlier calculations on association in CH3(+) + H2 and CD3(+) + D2 are extended and refined. It is concluded that there are serious discrepancies between recent measurements made with an 80 K low-pressure ion trap and theory and measurements made with the SIFT apparatus at 80 K, 0.4 torr, and a 13 K ultralow pressure ion trap.
