It is shown from an analysis of recent data that, contrary to some previously held views, it is intense microwave bursts, rather than Type-II or metre-wave Type-IV bursts that are almost always associated with γ-ray emissions / proton events. Such microwave bursts can be divided into two classes, impulsive and Type-IVμ. The former is associated with more trapped or interacting protons, the latter, with more escaping protons. Physical reasons for the nearly perfect association are discussed.
