We have carried out a detailed study of associated CIV lambda lambda 1548, 1550 absorption lines in the spectra of radio-loud quasars drawn from the low-frequency selected Molonglo Quasar Sample in two redshift ranges, 0.7 < z < 1.0 and 1.5 < z < 3.0. We find that associated CIV absorption occurs preferentially in steep-spectrum quasars, and the absorption strength is anti-correlated with the projected linear size, suggesting an evolutionary sequence. We also find that heavily absorbed quasars are systematically redder, implying that radio sources are triggered in gas- and dust-rich environments, as expected in a post-merger starburst.
