Solitons
Scientific paper
Classical scalar fields in the context of unification theories have been investigated as a possibility to form the missing matter of the universe--the dark matter--in form of massive and stable nontopological solitons, which can exist in such theories. The standard SU(5) theory with the extension of an extra Higgs 5-plet has been used as a basis model and as an example for a unification theory. The conditions for the existence of such nontopological solitons, here called Higgalumps describing their origin from the Higgs sector and their property of being "lumps", at or above the unification scale (10^{15 }-1019 GeV) have been investigated. Solutions have been found numerically. It has been possible to establish solutions in agreement with the necessary conditions and with the constraints from cosmology. Because of the color charge of Higgalumps the phenomenology of colored, electro-magnetically charged and pointlike objects of this mass range has been investigated. In particular the question of the formation of black holes in stars and planets has been studied. No black holes are formed in this case. The possibility of detecting dark matter at lower mass ranges (GeV to TeV) in underground detectors has been investigated.
