Soft gamma--ray repeaters (SGRs) and anomalous x-ray pulsars (AXPs) are x-ray sources with unusual temporal and spectral characteristics which distinguish them from other Galactic X-ray sources. The class properties of these enigmatic objects can be studied using the uniform and complete data set provided by the ASCA public data archive at the High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center, provided by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. We present the results of spectral and temporal analysis of SGRs and AXPs over the energy range 0.3-10.0 keV using these data. D.M. acknowledges the support of a National Research Council Research Associateship hosted by the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center.
