Preliminary analysis of the ASCA observation of the supernova remnant RCW86 will be presented. The image of the remnant shows two bright arcs of emission on opposite sides of the remnant. Spectral analysis of the X-ray emission requires a powerlaw plus two temperatures to get an acceptable fit. The implication is that there is electron acceleration at the shock front and that the electrons are emitting X-rays through bremsstrahlung in the gas that is producing the thermal emission. A more physically plausible model requires a magnetohydrodynamical interaction with the clouds including nonequilibrium ionization of the shock heated clouds. This work was supported in part by NASA contract NAS8-38252.
