A quantum detector of high sensitivity is described which makes it possible to prove the existence of single radiation quanta in the extreme infrared and radio spectrum. It is shown that the device utilizes the so-called Rydberg-atoms, which have a high degree of excitability, to amplify the detection of radiation quanta. In addition, some potential applications of the device are described.
