New measurements of the argon-content in potassium salts are reported. The results indicate a relationship between the argon-content and the size of the crystals investigated. By comparison of the experimental data with theoretical calculations, a diffusion constant of (1.5 ± 1) × 10 -19 cm 2 / sec for argon in potassium chloride can be found. Considering these results the measurements lead to an age of (21 ± 3) × 10 6 for the lower oligocene, the geological period from which the examined samples come. The geological influences that could have been able to alter the given value of the age, and the magnitude of the possible error are discussed.
