The supernova remnant (SNR), G42.8+0.6, appears to be a typical, faint, shell-type SNR. However, two unusual neutron stars (SGR 1900+14 and J1907+0918) are projected just outside of it and may have been born in the SNR explosion. We have recently undertaken detailed spectral-line and continuum observations of G42.8+0.6, with the Arecibo 305-m telescope, at a range of different frequencies. We found a patch of OH absorption just below the rim of the SNR. The patch comes from a molecular cloud that is most likely in an interaction with the SNR. This cloud has curious OH line ratios, far from what is expected for thermal equilibrium. From OH data we estimate the kinematic distance for the SNR of (11 +/- 3) kpc, which is larger than the estimate of 5.7 kpc for SGR 1900+14 but not inconsistent with the latest estimate of 7.8 (-1.1, +0.9) kpc for the pulsar.
