Using a simple model for the thermal properties of very old supernova remnants and superbubbles, it is found that the observed background soft X-ray and extreme ultraviolet spectra can be produced by a superbubble formed by the injection of about 1052 erg into the interstellar medium surrounding the Earth roughly 4×106 yr ago.
