Gravitation (General Relativity) is regarded as an effective field theory, analogous to Chiral Perturbation Theory. Arguments, which do not involve large compactified extra dimensions are presented, that the Planck scale (10^16 TeV) is not a physical one, and that the fundamental cutoff scale for gravitation is of the order of the electroweak one (1 TeV). The true vacuum energy density is shown to be small and is related to the recent observations of the accelerating expansion of the universe. Interesting relations (satisfied by the data) are found between the scales mentioned above and the cosmological time. No new theory is proposed for the phenomena beyond the fundamental gravitation scale, but this study reenforces the possibility that the physics which affects fundamental notions like space and time, may be studied experimentally by the next generation of accelerators.
