Evidence in the literature exists for voids seen in the Ly-α forest of QSOs studied under high resolution and high signal-to-noise. The indication is that of voids at least as large as approximately 50 h-1Mpc (h ≡ H0/100 km s-1Mpc-1), but with a spatial filling factor of perhaps only 5 per cent near a redshift of 3. This evidence is weak enough that further data must be acquired before a universal phenomenon can be established. The total absence of such voids, however, is excluded at the 99 per cent level.
