An analysis is presented of the data on atomic and molecular gas for a sample of far-infrared/optically-selected galaxies observed by Young et al. (1989). The analysis based on this larger sample confirms the increase in the ratio of molecular hydrogen to galaxy mass as the latter increases. From a comparison of distance-independent normalized H2 masses, it is concluded that there is a good indication of deficiency of H2 in the Virgo galaxies as compared to the field (non-Virgo) galaxies. This deficiency of H2 is also indirectly confirmed by the deficiency of far-infrared and H-alpha luminosities, which correlate well with the mass of molecular hydrogen.
