The evidence for gamma-ray emission from quasars is discussed, with a focus on the possible identification of the 19-mag redshift-1.2 quasar QS 0630 + 180 as the gamma source CG 195 + 4 (Moffat et al., 1983). The possible mechanisms for gamma emission in quasars are examined, and it is found that the number of quasars with ratios of gamma to low-frequency (radio, IR, optical, and X-ray) luminosity greater than or equal to 1 must be small. Nevertheless, QS 0630 + 180 and 3C373 in CG 289 + 64 are considered strong gamma-source candidates until gamma observations with sufficient resolution to exclude this possibility become available.
