An analysis of the distribution of companions around giant galaxies has revealed that their spatial distribution is not spherically symmetric with the probabiliy of at least 96.3 percent according to the chi sq test. A much better representation of the observations can be obtained, supposing that the companions show a tendency to be concentrated toward a plane which is nearly perpendicular to the plane of their main galaxies. Such a hypothesis is supported also by the kinematics of the companions. Taking into account the existence of other well-known systems with two perpendicular disks (the polar ring galaxies) it is reasonable to suppose that the existence of two nearly perpendicular planes of symmetry in galaxies may be a common phenomenon.
