The emission lines in the vicinity of H-beta in the spectrum of 3C 273 are reexamined. It is found that while most of the emission redward of H-beta is attributable to strong multiplet 42 Fe II lines, forbidden O III lines double-lambda 4959, 5007 also appears to be present. The forbidden O III lines are broad compared to those in other active galaxies, but they are narrower than the permitted lines and presumably arise in a distinct region. The large forbidden line widths account for the unusual appearance of the 3C 273 spectrum.
