The archivage in astrometry is a fundamental task since determination of motions require observations at different epochs. Specialized data centers and C.D.S. itself do their utmost for keeping the astrometric measurements but the main current problems are the huge amount of data (from survey plate scannings, new ground-based and space techniques) and the bad-known long term reliability of the magnetic tapes, videodisks and new optical disks.
