For more than twenty years, Astrium (merge of former Matra Marconi Space, DASA) has been developing and manufacturing space vehicles: earth observation satellites, telecommunication satellites, launchers, in-orbit infrastructures. Through the years, the development of these space vehicles have made a more and more intensive use of simulation tools from advanced studies, to sub-systems and spacecraft integration and validation, until space vehicle operations and exploitation. Facing a worldwide competition, Astrium's today's challenge is to reduce costs and delays. In the particular area of ground systems development, this challenge is being achieved by an increasing use of full software test and simulation systems as well as by sharing software components across the various ground systems used across the space vehicle life cycle. Software components reuse has been largely implemented within the infrastructure layer of test and simulation systems: Open Centre and SiMWARE initiatives, now fully mature and successful. Software components reuse is now also implemented within the simulation models layer of test and simulation systems. This paper explains how Astrium is setting-up an approach to reuse up to a maximum extent the simulation models across the various test and simulation systems used in support to space vehicles development and exploitation.
