We present results of the application of the one-dimensional Meudon PDR code to selected lines of sight within an MHD simulation of the ISM. The simulation describes the head-on collision of two flows of WNM, leading to the formation of cold and dense structures within a much warmer and more tenuous medium, via atomic cooling and self-gravity. The application of the PDR code to density profiles extracted from this simulation allows us to describe the chemical structure of dense cores, in particular putting forward further theoretical evidence for a "dark" (i.e. not seen in CO) component of the molecular gas.
