Single plane-wave spacetimes either possess non-scalar curvature singularities or Cauchy horizons. Plane-wave Cauchy horizons are stable to perturbation by plane-symmetric radiation propagating parallel to the original wave, but they are unstable to colliding waves. We use these plane-wave Cauchy horizons to study the robustness of a stability (actually instability) conjecture which we previously applied with success to black-hole Cauchy horizons. We find the conjecture misses purly Weyl-tensor (conformal) singularities, but correctly predicts Ricci-tensor (matter) singularities. Two theorems are proved.
