The Baade-Wesselink method of determining the radius of a variable star is examined in relation to a nonradially oscillating star. To derive the true radius of the star, the radius derived by the Wesselink method had to be multiplied by a factor which depends upon the l value of the spherical harmonic. For all odd values of l the radius was found to be indeterminate by the method.
