Attention is given to the statistical regularization method which is used to interpret data from the Fourier spectrometer on the Venera 15 and 16 probes. The method is applied to the solution of the inverse thermal-sounding problem in the absence of a priori information about the statistical characteristics of the solution. Use is made of model a priori correlation functions, determined from the kernel of the linearized inverse problem. The nonlinear integral equation of the problem is solved by the Kantorovich-Newton method.
