Two methods of astrometric plate reduction are checked by determining the proper motions of probable members of the alpha Persei cluster from Palomar Schmidt plates. One method consists of adding a stochastic filtering to the first method, a traditional plate constant reduction. Of the two methods, the one that makes use of stochastic filtering gave results closer to those obtained with wide-angle astrographic plates.
