The extended Kalman filter is used in this paper to process single-station laser ranging data over a few revolutions to improve the satellite orbit. The aim is to provide accurate short-term predictions of the satellite position. The dynamical model includes the perturbations due to the Earth's oblateness, air drag, solar radiation pressure and the gravitational attractions of the Sun and the Moon.
The proposed method is tested with simulated and real LAGEOS data. The results show that the above aim is achievable. Moreover, the computing program based on the present method can be realized on mini-computers.
