Wavefield tomography involves modeling the amplitude information contained in seismic data. Its terrestrial applications have shown that the resolution of the resulting models is significantly better than that based on travel-time methods. We here demonstrate that terrestrial wavefield techniques can be applied to study the spatial density of random acoustic sources near the visible solar surface. In addition, we show how this high-resolution tomographic technique can be employed to study the seismic structure of sunspots.
