The significance and research status on the application of general relativity to the time-frequency metrology are introduced, and the main subjects in this field such as the relationship between proper time and coordinate time, the transformation between different coordinate times, the different means of time comparisons, and the different means of frequency comparisons, are reviewed with the updated results presented. At the end the issues in this field, which need to be paid attention to, are discussed briefly.
